Geeta Ashram

A FEW GLIMPSES OF GEETA ASHRAM, HEADQUARTERS, DELHI CANTT, NEW DELHI-11010.

Upliftment of Humanity, creation of universal brotherhood and trust in almighty God by Establishment of Geeta Ashram  Institutions in India and abroad, initiated and sponsored by His Holiness Shree 108 Swami Hari Harji Maharaj, Founder President and Supreme Head of Word-Wide Geeta Ashrams.

Ever since the formation of the First Geeta Ashram at Mathura, Geeta Ashram has acquired a significant and true meaning to devote a group of devotees who have complete faith and understanding and who take refuge and find solace under the spiritual guidance of His Holiness Gurudev Maharaj Shree, Shrimad Bhagavad Geeta and Bhagwan Sri Krishna known as “Guru Geeta and Gopal”.

The dynamic guidance of His Holiness Gurudev Maharaj Shree and His personal efforts have made it possible to organize more and more Geeta Ashrams both in India and abroad.  It is amazing to find out that a small seed planted on the Holy banks of Jamuna, about 55 years back, has grown into a big Bodhi Tree, spreading its branches in India and several other countries of the world.

Today there are more than 600 Geeta Ashrams located around the world which are serving humanity and providing spiritual umbrella to all mankind.  This has been possible because of the personal inspiration provided by His Holiness Gurudev Maharaj Shree for spreading the message of Shrimad Bhagavad Geeta.

Although many countries in the world have improved their economic conditions, materially, financially and physically, and although science and technology have helped humanity to come closer to each other, they have at the same time widened the differences between man and man and between nation and nation.  The people are full of mutual fear and suspicion, worst of all, terrorism has become today’s slogan of those who yield power and possess dangerous weapons.  In trying to remove this fear and suspicion from mankind, Geeta Ashrams around the world are playing a strong and effective role in enhancing universal brotherhood.

Immediately after organizing Geeta Ashram at Mathura, His Holiness established Geeta Ashram at Delhi Cantt., located in the capital of India.  His Holiness got a large area plot of land allotted right in the center of Delhi Cantt, close to the Base Military Hospital and near the Ram Lila Grounds.  It was because of some of the top most Army Generals during those days headed by Lt. Gen. B.M. Kaul whose timely assistance and help gave fillip to Geeta Ashram work.

Besides the above, Lt. Gen. K. Bhagwati Singh, Mrs. D.K. Kaul, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Shri Hans Raj Nanda and many others also were instrumental in carrying out the plans for making Geeta Ashram a reality.  Ultimately, this very Geeta Ashram located at Delhi Cantt, became the International Headquarters of all other Geeta Ashrams and its foundation stone was laid by His Excellency Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then Vice President of India and later on the President of India.  Geeta Ashram, Delhi Cantt., is also the “Supreme Spiritual and Sacred Seat” (Gadi-Math) of His Holiness Gurudev Maharaj Shree from where operate all the activities of Geeta Ashrams both in India and abroad.

The Central Headquarters, of Geeta Ashram was organized and Registered with the State Govt. of Delhi on 4th June, 1954 under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860 at No. 744 of 1954-55, with His Holiness Shree 108 Swami Hari Harji Maharaj as its Founder President. Today in the year 2010, Geeta Ashram has got 15 Members on its Governing Body, with large number of Devotees as its General Body Members.

Geeta Ashram activities have been going on day by day.  It starts with early morning Aarthi in the Temple, followed by Geeta Path, Havan and Yoga classes.  Daily satsang is being held regularly in the evenings in the temple.

Geeta Ashram operates Central Headquarters Office at Delhi Cantt, which keeps close link with other Geeta Ashrams located in India and abroad.  It has a large library which has more than twenty thousand books including its own Ashram publications.  It runs Geeta Ashram Vidya Mandir which has more than 600 children on its rolls.  It is being run on Public Schools lines with English medium pattern and it is registered with Delhi State Government.  The children are admitted mostly from Armed Forces Cadres stationed in Delhi Cantt., and also from Civilian population of the area.  It publishes “Guru Prasad” every month, which is sent to life Members in India and abroad.  The Ashram also has a large size Temple with beautiful marble statues of Bhagwan Sri Krishna, Radha Mata, Hanuman ji, Mata Durga Bhagvatiji and Bhagwan Ganesh ji.  The temple is having a spacious hall with seating capacity of about 3,000 people at a time.  It has a residential block and a tube well for water supply.  It has also large number of other rooms for inmates of the Ashram and devotees visiting from time to time.

Besides the above, Geeta Ashram Headquarters in Delhi Cantt. Has been very busy particularly when His Holiness Gurudev Maharaj Shree and Revered Swami Brahmanand ji Maharaj and Revered Swami Guru Maa ji have been in station after their return from local tours in India and from other countries.  The entire Ashram campus reverberates with continuous activities from morning till midnight.  People throng to it not only from various parts of India but also from all the corners of the world.  Whenever people come to know about their arrival in Delhi, people have been rushing for first glance of “Holy Darshan” and His Holinessand Revered Swami Brahmanand ji Maharaj and Revered Swami Guru Maa ji.

While the campus of Geeta Ashram in Delhi Cantt, was under construction, His Holiness Gurudev Maharaj Shree  also took the initiative in getting a huge plot of land allotted for Geeta Ashram at Faridabad.  Here His Holiness was able to get about two acres of land allotted in the name of Faridabad Geeta Ashram.  The site of this land is very close to Faridabad Railway Station and is of prime importance because of its proximity to New Faridabad Township and the Railway Station. It is also situated on main National Highway which leads to Mathura, Agra and Bombay.  Every day hundreds of railway trains and thousands of motor vehicles pass by Faridabad Geeta Ashram in both directions.

The story of Faridabad is different from that of Mathura and Delhi :  While people living in Mathura and Delhi, have their roots deep from ancestral times, the people living in Faridabad are displaced persons (Refugees) from North Western Frontier Province (NWFP) of undivided India.  These people had to flee from NWFP in the newly created Pakistan, in 1947.  Thousands of people had to leave their homes and hearths in tragic circumstances and many of their kith and kin were killed in their own villages and cities.  Many people were massacred while travelling in the trains from Pakistan to India.

When late Lt. Gen. B.M. Kaul took the Command of Ambala Cantt. He invited His Holiness Gurudev Maharaj Shree to Ambala and got a plot of land allotted for Geeta Ashram at Ambala.  This Ashram became popular both for army and civilian population in Ambala.  Here also the people of Ambala became very much interested in learning Geetaji.  Today the local committee has constructed about 19 shops for the development and maintenance of Ambala Geeta Ashram.

Since then the organization and development of Geeta Ashrams have been founded and managed by His Holiness Gurudev Maharaj Shree personally at various places and followed and guided by Revered Swami Brahmanand ji Maharaj and Revered Swami Guru Maa ji presently from time to time as given below:
